Tai Shan Farms

During my time WWOOFing at Tai Shan Farms in Ocean View, Hawai‘i, I used photography to document the evolving story of a small, biodiverse farm in transition. As the farm shifted toward generating profit through its farm stand + restaurant, I focused on capturing imagery that felt both grounded and intentional—menu items framed by the vibrant dragonfruit fields they came from, visually tying product to place. I was especially drawn to the quieter, more intricate moments: bees moving through the delicate dragonfruit blossoms, the hum of the apiary set against the stillness of the land. My work aimed to reflect not just the beauty of the farm, but the systems, labor, and innovation behind it—preserving the raw, living essence of a farmer adapting and growing in real time.
